Taking the Challenge of AI to the next level

Bonavision Inc, The Intelligent Robotic Company in Korea has been in the existence since 1997. Founded by Richard Shinn, PhD, the direction of the company’s research and development is inspired by his Dissertation titled “A Unified Approach to Analogical Reasoning.” The company seeks to build autonomous agent by unifying problem solving and learning by analogy, a core engine for true AI agents.

To build a truly intelligent agent which can continually interact with the world and help solve problems, true AI techniques leveling the human brain capabilities must be put to practice. This task involves creating agents with the basic human abilities like being able to understand natural language, learning process, memory, planning, and reasoning from past events. The agents must be able to display cognitive, social and emotional intelligence.

Robots with limited levels of social and emotional intelligence have been brought to our floors but they lack the core human cognitive intelligence. Bonavision has sought to bring this kind of intelligent robot over the years and now have a glimpse of it with a very promising future.

TYCHE, is the first true AI companion for kids with the ability to listen, talk, think, plan and move within its own world just like humans react within a particular environment. The human brain can perform all these complex tasks seamlessly from natural language understanding to taking an action, say kicking a ball. With the smartphone as the brain, and a robot in the form of a car-body, TYCHE understands the user’s input in natural language, processes it, maintains and probes its episodic memory for case-based reasoning and able to plan ahead based on the current belief-state.

Ready to be rolled out as a commercial version in Q1 2016, Tyche has been pitched on Kickstarter campaign page to seek an audience and attract a community of supporters and developers to further its growth.  So far it has been a good experience with our initial set-goal reached. TYCHE, a companion for you to interact with instantly, is a conversational agent with true AI capabilities. Encounter with Tyche Captured my Dream in Life

This is a note written to the CEO of Bonavision, The Intelligent Robotic Company in South Korea and now established in Stanford Research Park in Palo Alto, California. The CEO, Dr. Richard Shinn, in many of his businesses and the quest to transfer knowledge and leadership to the young, has started a Foundation for the young leaders of the future and ready to mentor them. It is through one of the three-week programs on Basic AI with Tyche where this young boy’s dream to become an engineer is rekindled. Below are his own words translated from the original language which is Korean.  

Hello, my name is YunJun Kim, a 3^rd grade at Sindorim Elementary school in Seoul.

The reason why I want to be a robotics engineer is that I became interested in robots after I saw a movie, Big Hero which featured the robot Baymax rescuing a city.  I fell in love with Baymax after the movie and I even begged my mom to buy me a bag with a Baymax mascot. Now I have gained more interest and want to know more about the robots. These days I am very excited about science class at school.

Actually, I had not pushed hard on my dream because there are too many things to study in order to become the person whom adults usually expect you to be.  I wasn’t even interested in English, Mathematics, or any other subject for that matter. All the subjects were very hard for me. But now I have a dream to create a robot such as Baymax. My dream is to be a robotics engineer like Dennis Hong (a Professor and Founding Director of Robotics & Mechanical Laboratory – UCLA). I know that I have to study hard to become a robotics engineer but I will do my best to achieve my goal.

I will have an opportunity to experience an AI robot, Tyche for the next 3 weeks. I like Baymax, but I think I will enjoy meeting Tyche as well and I am very excited about it.

I wish to meet a scientist mentor and if I could, I will be very happy to ask him or her about all the curious questions I have on robots.

And that is the dream of a young engineer in the making.
